Under the responsibility of the Service Director, the Mechanic acts as a qualified mechanic, capable of diagnosing problems and making repairs in various, if not all, areas; they may specialize in specific repair areas.
- Perform the work described on the repair order efficiently and accurately, according to dealership and manufacturer standards
- Determine the cause of any defect and make the repair
- Identify vehicle defects based on customer complaints and own inspection
- Inspect the assigned vehicle to determine if additional safety and maintenance work is required
- Notify the service advisor and/or the supervisor promptly if additional work is needed, if the described work is not necessary, or if repairs cannot be completed
- Install any optional equipment requested by the customer or dealership
- Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order
- Conduct a test drive if necessary
- Participate in mandatory training programs to keep skills up-to-date and attend manufacturer-sponsored events
- Stay informed about manufacturer's technical bulletins
- Supervise the work of apprentice technicians
- Ensure cleanliness of customer vehicles and promptly report to the service advisor of any incidents that may change the appearance or condition of a vehicle
- Maintain and be responsible for all tools and manuals belonging to the company; return them to their proper location and in the same condition as received
- Stay current on federal, provincial, and municipal regulations such as hazardous waste disposal, etc., understand them, and comply
- Report any safety concerns to immediate superior promptly and ensure adherence to health and safety regulations in the workplace
- Ensure compliance with Quebec health and safety laws to maintain a safe environment
- Perform any other tasks as requested by a superior and as needed by the organization.
