Job Description
Wheelchair Accessible Transit, a Vaughan, Ontario-based provider of accessible transportation, is seeking a Mechanic / Technician to join our fleet maintenance team. This full-time role is ideal for a hands-on professional who takes pride in keeping specialized mobility vehicles in top condition and ensuring safe, reliable service for riders.
Key responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on a mixed fleet of wheelchair-accessible vehicles (lifts, ramps, hydraulics, electrical systems, drivetrains, brakes, and safety components).
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using service manuals and diagnostic tools.
- Conduct safety inspections, road tests, and ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate service records, document work performed, and manage basic parts inventory.
- Perform component replacements, routine brake work, engine and transmission service, and associated repairs within scope.
- Collaborate with dispatch and field teams to schedule maintenance with minimal disruption to service.
- Participate in safety training and ongoing professional development.
What you bring
- Minimum 1 year of hands-on automotive repair experience in a licensed shop or equivalent environment.
- Completion of a related automotive program; Red Seal designation is an asset.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to operate company vehicles and service equipment.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and a solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in vehicles.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills; detail-oriented and safety-focused.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a fleet maintenance team; flexibility for after-hours on-call if required.
