Responsibilities
- Provide maintenance and repairs to City vehicles and equipment, using a variety of hand and power tools and equipment.
- Perform overhauls, engine tune-ups, and other work.
- Diagnose and carry out repairs to transmissions, clutches, front and rear axles, differentials, brake systems, drive lines, and other components.
- Perform inspections and safety checks.
- Provide work direction and training to other staff.
- Perform a variety of skilled work that does not require the services of other licensed trades.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Operate vehicles to move them in and out of the garage, conduct road tests, and perform road repairs.
- Ensure health and safety regulations are met.
- Perform other related work as assigned.
- Perform skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of motive power, construction, and assorted equipment.
Requirements
- Possess and maintain a kit of tools satisfactory to the Garage Supervisor and in accordance with the basic tool requirements of the Central Garage.
- Be able to work in a computerised environment.
- Be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work.
- Have the physical strength to do the work.
- Be available to work shifts, weekends, overtime, and on-call duty.
- Have experience providing work direction and training to other colleagues.
