Summarized job description
Reporting to the Vice President of Finance/Operations, the Controller is responsible for financial planning and accounting practices at the dealership under their purview.
Main functions

Perform bank reconciliations;

Prepare government reports and remittances;

Ensure the closure of financial statements;

Prepare and analyze financial reports and statements;

Present sales and expense analysis and report the financial status of the dealerships under their responsibility to management;

Manage cash flow and the floor plan;
-
Develop control systems to enable the effective operation of the business;
-
Maintain accurate records;
-
Implement and maintain data processing systems to meet the objectives of the dealerships under their responsibility;

Responsible for organizing and structuring the accounting department;
-
Ensure team efficiency by improving and implementing accounting and operational procedures and following up with managers;

Responsible for the annual audit with external auditors;

Manage accounting operations, including reviewing accounting entries, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and statutory reports;

Ensure financial functions are reconciled monthly, including, but not limited to, cash, accounts receivable, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accounts payable, payroll administration, and intercompany accounts;

Review dealers' financial statements and related reports, as well as quarterly workbooks to ensure consistency and compliance with policies and procedures;

Monitor and review actual results against forecasts to ensure any issues are identified and corrected in a timely manner;

Regularly communicate budget status to stakeholders; identify risks and contribute ideas to improve profits and/or control expenses;

Be attentive to organizational needs;

Lead, train, coach, and develop the accounting team;
-
Participate in the hiring process for their staff;
-
Ensure effective communication within the department as well as across the organization and seek harmony and teamwork with all other departments;

Workforce training law.
Prepare all required documents to comply with the Workforce Training and Development Act (1% law); Compile data and analyze training needs from the previous year and the current year to establish the training budget; Ensure that all steps related to the achievement of pay equity have been completed; Oversee the retirement plan program.
Other tasks
Participate in management meetings, as requested; Attend any training as requested by a supervisor; Perform any other tasks as requested by their supervisor and as needed by the organization.
Requirements
Minimum relevant experience of 5 years and/or Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; Strong skills in establishing procedures; Multi-site accounting; Experience in the automotive industry as well as knowledge of DMS-type software: CDK, PBS, a plus.
